Homeschool Nirvana

I survived the whole end-of-year homeschool thingy…a big sigh of relief to reach the end of our year.  It all went rather well, I think.  I am so looking forward to enjoying a quiet Summer, and I am already excited about plans for next school year.

My Spring cleaning was successfully accomplished (though a bit late)- this is rather huge for me, I  usually get derailed half-way through and end up with “good enough”.

In other, positive news- I also successfully got out of the recent camping trip.

“I get allergic when smelling hay.., dahling I love you, but give me park avenue.”

yes, something like that!  I can enjoy 2 days of camping, but anymore than that and I’m whimpering.  We are talking tent-camping.  The captain was talking about 5 days, 4 nights.  He elected to leave me home.  I promised him big time Father’s day feting in return.  Marriage can be give and take, yes?

So, it was just The Dogma and I for a few days- lots of  sleeping in late, long walks, late-night snacks and chic t.v. :)

The kids are all very excited that Summer is finally here.  We’ve already had bike rides, water balloon fights and s’mores in the backyard.  I just wish it would warm up.

Some Summers we continue schooling, since we keep things a bit relaxed around here.  This year, we are ceasing studies, except for reading.  I’ve started a book club to keep things interesting, and we will have lots of discussions about what we are reading.

So, blog-friends with kids at home… do you continue your studies through the Summer?

  • Just stopping by from the blog hop. I don’t get along too well with tent camping either :-) . Glad you enjoyed your few days “off.” I just graduated my oldest (yeah!!!!!!) who is off to work at a camp all summer. That leaves me with a 13 y.o. to entertain all summer while I work on my own course work & organizing for the fall. Gotta sneak in some relaxation there somewhere.

  • You know G, every year we’ve done summer school, this year I said we’d take summer off except for… the reading, oh, and a bit of math here and there (I don’t want foggy brains starting in the fall), well, we might as well do some fun projects, and then there is music… Okay, you caught me! I “pretend” to take summer off! I need to fix my lipstick… xoxo

  • Yeah, I don’t tent camp, either. I have this ridiculous fear of snakes, and every time something brushes up against the side of the tent, I’m just SURE it’s a snake. So, I end up not sleeping for a week or however long we’re out there. I told DH if he wants to camp, he needs to buy me a camper. With AC. And running water… not a little pop-up, either. We’ve been camping once in 11 years. ;-)

For summer, we only take a few weeks off (like 2 or 3). Any more than that, and the kids start to go bonkers. Who am I kidding, they’re already going bonkers, and it’s only been a day and a half!! (sigh) It’s gonna be a long summer.

Stopping by from the HHH and following you!

  • I will be doing school through the summer because: 1) We got a late start in the fall. 2) I like the slower pace. and 3) It is so. dang. HOT. in Florida, that any excuse to stay inside is a good one for me! ;o)

  • We homeschool year round and just started the school year this past monday (as you saw on my blog!) Thanks for stopping by!! :D And we are going camping this weekend, though it’s beach camping…so not to-to shabby.

  • Perfect!!! I love when (my) Captain takes the kids and gives me some alone time at home. It’s bliss!!!
